The Big Shift: Navigating the New Stage Beyond Midlife by Marc Freedman has come out in paperback this week. If you did not get a chance to read it when it was first published in hardcover in 2011, I recommend you read it now.
Freedman has been shining a light on the stage of life between middle age and old age (approximately 60 to 80) that we boomers are in now. Rather than a time of sedentary retirement, Freedman champions this as a time to channel our experience, talent and maturity to solve societal problems.
He coined the term “encore years” to describe this stage of life. If you’re a boomer and you’re wondering what’s next for you, this book will motivate and inspire you. If you’ve read the book - or Freedman’s previous book, Encore: Finding Work that Matters in the Second Half of Life, share your comments here.
I look forward to reading the book. 60-80 is certainly a season where society pretty much dismisses you or we dismiss ourselves. As a lifelong learner, I'm just getting started on what I would like to give back. For me, a coaching/consultant business will allow me to reach baby boomers; but also mature women, any age group, who are stuck and sputtering through life, and just need a little oil to get to the next step.
